A Glimpse of Bali

Flashes of orange capture the eye as one drives through Bali. At first it is tempting to believe you imagined it as a second glance only reveals green. But keep looking because almost hidden by the abundant brilliant green foliage are beautiful buildings similar in design to the wall in the above photo.
We discovered our first “orange” building while on a search for an ATM. Getting off the main road we found an ATM but also discovered a lovely building right beside it. Almost missed the building, even though it was very large and we were right next to it. The unique orange color captured my interest and then, looking way up through all the green, realized what we were looking at…a beautiful building. What a different experience!
The photo above was taken at the airport in Bali because most of the buildings we found were surrounded by forest and difficult to photograph…and, okay, I was so intrigued by them that I forgot to take pictures!
Other glimpses of Bali that still resonate with me include…
1. the Elephant Safari Park where you can feed the elephants and even go for a ride on one.
2. the Balinese offering baskets prepared fresh each morning.
You find them on doorsteps, on the dash of taxis, everywhere! Some gardens have a special shrine where offerings of flowers and fruit are made.
3. Women in traditional dress carrying offerings balanced on their heads
We came across this procession heading to the nearby temple one evening. Our driver pulled over and we watched the procession of whole families, beautifully dressed in traditional garb, walking down the side of the road.
4. a day trip to see Mount Batur
5. a day at a Bali cooking school ( click here to join us there )
6. the ocean and the beautiful resorts along the ocean
7. the people…
There is so much for the visitor to see and do in Bali. This has just been a glimpse.
If the opportunity arises, say yes to Bali, Indonesia.
