The Inner Harbour of Victoria, BC, Canada is the gateway to Victoria in a sense. I say that because most of the places a tourist would likely find of interest are on (or a short distance from) the Inner Harbour.
A few years ago it was difficult to walk around the whole Inner Harbour and still see the harbour. Now it is much easier because of a special 5 km pathway.
Welcome to the David Foster Harbour Pathway.
Hint: click on any photo to enlarge it.
The pathway follows the contours of the shore for most of the way so one gets lovely unobstructed views.
There are benches dotted along the path so you can sit and relax and enjoy Victoria’s casual lifestyle.
I was fascinated to watch the drawbridge open and close to allow marine traffic to enter and leave. Not many drawbridges left anymore I would think.
From the David Foster Pathway one gets a perfect front row seat to watch the ferry to Port Angeles,WA come and go
and the float planes taxi in and out.
Did you notice the little boat in the photo?
That’s a water taxi. You can take it from station to station along the Inner Harbour. Here one is at the Fisherman’s Wharf station. (Don’t you just love the way they spell water taxi!)
The pathway leads right to Fisherman’s Wharf and then on to Ogden Point where the cruise ships come in.
Speaking of Fisherman’s Wharf…want to visit it with me?
See more of Victoria (Fisherman’s Wharf, Emily Carr House. etc)
and other places in Canada
Happy travels!
