Mexican Fiesta

Fiestas usually involve food…sometimes served buffet style.
Sometimes served as a sit down meal.
But the food is always good!
Fiesta entertainment usually is done on a raised stage…but being Mexico, any open space is workable. (Mexicans are very resourceful!)
The program always starts with some sort of active participation entertainment for the children in the audience. Frequently it involves a pinata… usually the pinata is a traditional style one, but
sometimes the pinata takes on more unexpected shapes!
If the family is there in early January, the children may even receive gifts from the Three Kings.
as do dance performances.
Each dance is performed in the traditional dress of that region
The dancers above are wearing costumes from the state of Jalisco.
I believe this next one is from the state of Durango.
Some dances are rituals…like this one where the bride and groom
use only their feet to create a huge bow out of the ribbon on the floor,
Hence “tying the knot”
(Hint: click on the photo to enlarge it and look for the red ribbon on the floor)
Sometimes the entertainment takes on an ancient theme and celebrates traditions and dances of the indigenous peoples.
It is hauntingly beautiful to watch.
Sometimes you may be entertained by jugglers, mimes, rope artists, singers, or skilled gymnasts…
…even singers on horseback (seriously!)
If you are in a large outdoor area you might see a performance like this.
No matter what the style the entertainment takes, you are going to experience something special.
Aside: Mexican fiesta shows are getting harder to find in Puerto Vallarta, even at individual resorts! So, if you have the opportunity to attend one…DO IT!
