The Millennium statue is at the north end of the Malecon, next to the Rosita Hotel.
It is the work of sculptor Mathis Lidice, pictured here in the grey colored shirt. If you take the sculpture walk tour (which is offered each Tuesday morning at 9:30 am beginning at this sculpture) you may be lucky enough to hear Senior Lidice himself talk about his famous sculpture.

Local Huichol expert, Kevin Simpson, (in the pink shirt) may also come along on the sculpture walk tour to talk about the intriguing designs found in the pavement of the Malecon.
But back to the sculpture… look at the bottom of the metal.
Looks like waves, doesn’t it.
Waves they are…depicting belief that life emerged from the oceans.
Follow the symbols up the statue and you will see various life forms emerging from the oceans.
Then there is a human…Charlemange. He represents the development of our modern civilization in Europe during the first millennium.
A little farther up the statue is another figure representing the shift of power to the North American continent during the second millennium.
And at the very tip of the statue is a woman reaching towards a dove of peace…representing our entry into the third millennium.
