Think you identified the correct location, do you.
Let’s see…Where in the world did we take this photo? If you want to check out the original clues, click here.
We are in the country of Japan.
Are you right so far?
We are in the city of Nara. Back in the 700’s Nara was known as Heijo and was the first permanent capital city of Japan.

Nara is now a World Heritage Site. Our JR train trip from Kyoto took just under an hour.
The building is the Great Eastern Temple or Todaiji.
Todaiji has an interesting history. Originally built in 752, it was reconstructed in 1692. The main hall is the largest wooden building in the world.
Inside is Japan’s largest bronze Buddha statue. He is huge…really huge. One hand is raised with palm facing towards you. That one hand is as tall as a person. (Our photos inside the temple turned out very dark…but if you search on the web you will find photos of Daibutsu (that’s what the Japanese call the bronze Buddha found in the temple).
Next to the temple is a huge park where you will find friendly deer grazing. These deer are what originally led me to researching where Nara was and that led to learning about the city’s historical significance.
Interesting how one thing leads to another, isn’t it.
