Admiring the colorful clothing of some of the minorities in China, one can not help but wonder about the process of making these lovely fabrics.
So, let’s go on a photo adventure and take a glimpse at how the fabrics were/are traditionally made.
First of all one would need thread.
Well, yes…but I was thinking about the steps before getting to that stage.
Do you want white or colorful?
Shall we buy it at a street market?
There are lots of colors to choose from so take your time.
We need cloth though.
Well, let’s check this out.
At the Baiyun Museum they are demonstrating the art of weaving cloth.
If the cloth is white how are we going to get the bold colors?
Here is how…dye it.
The newly dyed cloth might be dried on the rocks…or hung on racks to dry.
I have no idea what she is doing to the cloth…
Now that bolts of cloth are made, how does the consumer get it?
Answer: in a fabric store.
If you are not a skilled seamstress, you can hire someone else to make you a garment.
or go to a dress shop
Once you have your outfit, how about some shoes or slippers to go with it. Everyone needs footwear!
Most of these photos were taken in Autonomous Prefectures in the province of Guizhau, in south eastern China.
