Punting on the Avon River

Have you ever gone punting down a river?
Do you know what punting is?
(Maybe this photo will help you answer that last question.)
So...let’s go punting on the Avon River in Christchurch, New Zealand.
That is Hagley Park on both sides of the river.
(oh, you can click on any photo to enlarge it.)
After our punting adventure let’s go for a walk in that beautiful park.
Other boats are on the river, too. Thank goodness a skilled boatman is in charge of each vessel.
Look over there. What a huge daffodil!
Our boatman tells us the field all around that statue is filled with yellow daffodils each spring.
That means we should come back again in the spring, eh?
Oh, look. Another statue…there is a lot of public art here in Christchurch isn’t there.
I can guess what the inspiration for that statue was…
the ducks (and other birds) sharing the river with us.
Our boatman tells us this is a Passion Duck…the females have a white head.
And there is a Black Duck (I am pretty sure that is its real name.)
Our boatman tells us this tiny black duck is native to New Zealand.
Now…sit back and relax.
Enjoy the views.
It is so peaceful floating (punting) down the Avon!
Our thirty minutes on the river have just flown by.
We are approaching the Antigua Boat Shed where we will disembark.
Lets explore a bit inside the sheds…the parts that are a museum.
Aren’t you glad you joined us punting down the Avon?
