Self-drive in rural Ireland

Going to be driving in the rural areas of Ireland? If you answered yes to that question here is a tip drivers should keep in mind.
Gasoline for your vehicle is not always readily available.
Why, you ask? well…
- Irish service stations are few and far between (especially when the needle on ones gas gauge is nearing Empty!)
- When you spot a gasoline station there is no guarantee that they will have gasoline that day.
- Smaller service stations close for lunch (perhaps there is only one attendant). We came across that situation in Lisdoonvarna Co Clare. Asking around we were told that “himself must be out having his lunch. It will open again at 1:00)
- Also be aware that not all stations accept credit/debit cards…so have cash on hand.
So what is the solution?
When you do come across a place selling gasoline, fill up…even if you still have half a tank.
(You never know when you will find the next station!)
More tips can be found interspersed throughout other articles about Ireland. I invite you to check them out in my other reports from Ireland.
