Gatlinburg, Tennessee is the starting point for our venture into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Let’s start by taking an 8 mile drive down the Roaring Forks Road. It is a narrow road but it takes you past some lovely views.
There are trails just behind Treetops Resort that I love walking…
and can spend hours taking photos of scenes like this.
(yes, I know I have to be aware there are bears in the area.)
On longer drives into the park we encounter scenes like these.
This is from Clingman’s Dome area.
One can understand where the name Smoky Mountains came from. As you look at distant mountains there often seems to be a smoky haze (but it is not smoke).
(Hint: Click on any photo to enlarge it.)
Running water…oh, how I love the sound of babbling brooks and rushing streams.
No wonder the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is so popular in the USA.
