To recap…here is what we were trying to solve.
What in the world is it?
That was an easy one as the answer was right on the display board in front of the carriage (hopefully you clicked on that photo, as suggested in the travel quiz posting.)
If you want to go back and check it out, click here.
Yes, it is a piano box buggy or a top buggy.
The second part of the quiz is a little more difficult…
Where in the world were we when we saw this piano box buggy?
Obviously it was in a museum
near Lethbridge (did you check that reference out?)
in southern Alberta, Canada
Answer: the Remington Carriage Museum in Cardston, Alberta
This huge, state of the art museum houses over 200 carriages…
the largest museum of its kind in the world!
Here’s a Red River Cart
(check your history of Western Canada to learn more of the major role it played in the settlement of the West.)
Recognize this?
Remember, click any photo to enlarge it.
If you have ever been on a trail ride, or watched a western movie you likely are familiar with chuck wagons and their cooks.
Ready to go for a ride?
You can learn how to “drive” (technical term!) a team of 2 or 4 horses.
While at the museum we also learned a lot about Seabiscuit.
(There is another fun research project for you…who/what was Seabiscuit)
While in Cardston be sure to drive by this building…
the Mormon Temple, Cardston, Alberta.
and if you have time on your way west of town, stop at a lake
maybe Payne Lake
where you can go fishing
Waterton Lakes National Park is only a 45 minute drive from here…just saying!
Maybe even come back to Cardston in the winter time.
That is how Mr. Remington got interested in carriages, you know…fixing up a sleigh that he could use to bring Santa into town. (Seriously!)
