Well, fellow travelers, did you recognize the bridge?
If you have been to the Grand Canyon you may or may not have driven over it.
To recap, this is the bridge we are talking about.
If you said it is in the USA you are in the right country.
If you said it is in Arizona, you are narrowing it down.
If you said it is the Navajo Bridge, you are correct.
To get to the north rim of the Grand Canyon from the south is a bit complicated. Historically it was almost next to impossible. Lee’s Ferry was the first place where a crossing was possible and even there it was difficult. See what I mean by enlarging and examining the picture on this historical marker.

Even today to get from the south rim of the Grand Canyon National Park to the north rim that is “just across the canyon”, one has to travel eastward a considerable distance before crossing the Colorado River is possible.
And it is the Navajo Bridge on Highway 89A which makes that crossing possible.
I believe the canyon we are looking into is the Marble Canyon.
Those colorful hills in the background are the Vermillion Cliffs.
There is a small interpretive center and shop at one end of the bridge…so check my facts.
Now you have a fair distance to travel back to the north rim of the Grand Canyon but as you travel westward from the bridge you will pass though a hauntingly beautiful area. Take your time and enjoy it.
Do you know the geological history of this area? Do you know who the Anasazi were?
