Worship Around the World

Let’s travel around the world and see how many of these places of worship we can name!
(I am sure you have heard that seniors sometimes have memory problems…so please forgive if I goof on some. We have been to all of these though, that much I remember!)
Aside: these are in no particular order…neither of importance or chronologically. (Although that would be an interesting way to organize photos wouldn’t it. Hmm..)

Glasgow Cathedral or St. Mungo’s Cathedral
Glasgow, Scotland
This is a medieval cathedral that marks the birth place of Glasgow. Our guide painted the scenario of a time, long ago, when there was marsh (wet land) and illness on lower elevations so the church on high land was a symbol of hope.
Cathedrale Notre Dame de l’Immaculee Conception
Antibes, France
The lovely colours on the walls of this cathedral intrigued me as we visited the Musee Picasso next door. Later as we exited the museum, the bells of the cathedral were ringing. Memorable!
Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque
Gibraltar
We took a public bus to Europa Point (the very tip of the peninsula) and there we found this beautiful mosque. Standing here you can look across the Straits of Gibraltar and catch a glimpse of Africa…Morocco to be more precise.
Sam Poh Temple
Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
This Buddhist temple near the town of Brinchang holds special memories for me. First, I do not believe I had ever been inside a Buddhist Temple before! Secondly, I still hold a memory of “richness of beauty” (that’s my term!)…gold Buddha statue, dark rich woods…and third, cold, cold floors (one takes their shoes off when entering the temple.)
First Presbyterian Church
Virginia City, Nevada
Virginia City, in the heart of the Comstock Lode (think gold mining) and in the middle of the desert…well, it was not the type of place I would expect to find a lovely church like this. But there it was!
Aside: They have camel and ostrich races in Virginia City each summer…seriously!
Perhaps, five places of worship per posting is the limit of my attention span
so, where to next?
