Magic happens

Thursday, May 1 Dunedin, New Zealand
Fog is hanging low over Dunedin’s stately buildings as we head out of the city. Moving out into the area of the harbour we see nothing because of the fog.
Well, we do see faint outlines of teeth. (Yes, you read that right. The teeth are sculptures… a collaboration between the university’s dentistry and arts departments. Very creative!) Sorry I can not show you a picture of them…too foggy today.
We round a corner and are met with this lovely view.
(Hint: Click on any photo to enlarge it.) Isn’t it interesting how fog works!
But that is not the magic I refer to.
This early morning serenity is not to last though as we start heading up and up into the hills.
The fog returns with a vengeance.
Look out…that truck just seemed to come out of nowhere! Breathtaking experience, and our survival is miraculous
(I exaggerate. Both of us were on the correct side of the road so no danger)
but this is not the magic I refer to.
Shortly after that heart stopping experience on our climb up the hills, the magic happened.
One moment we are in dense fog.
The next moment we burst through the fog and …
...we are above the clouds.
An intense quietness fills the bus.
It is almost as if the world is standing still.
the grass is greener than green,
and the valley below us is filled with a sea of fog.
There is a mystical feel surrounding us.
And then, a few moments later, cattle appear into view…seemingly unaware of the magic around them.
This is a photographer’s dream, a poet’s inspiration,
an artist’s (what is the word I am looking for?)
And it is my once in a lifetime feeling..
the magical morning we burst through onto the top of the world.
Magic does happen!
Happy travels.
