The High Roller

High Roller. Observation Wheel. Ferris wheel. Whatever you call it…it is fun!
Welcome to Las Vegas and a ride on the High Roller.
(Hint: Click on photo to enlarge it.)
Reminds one of the wheel in London, England, doesn’t it.
But we are in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. More specifically, in the general area of The Grand Venetian hotel. Precisely, behind the Linq Hotel.
If you are coming off The Strip you walk down a wide pedestrian street (rather reminiscent of Main Street in Disneyland) that is filled with shops and restaurants. At the end of the street is this tall, tall wheel.
Stand under the wheel for a unique view of it.
Yes, that is a train going by on the monorail.
Tickets for The High Roller can be purchased in several places around Las Vegas. An official ticket office is just west of the wheel, along the Disney-like street.
You will have to decide if you wish to purchase a day-time or night time ticket. The prices are a bit higher for night time.
We decided on an evening ticket hoping to catch the sunset and lights coming on in Vegas.
Not many people riding the High Roller this evening, so we have only four people in our large pod! Fantastic!
Quite a view from up here!
The wheel moves continuously at a very slow pace (nothing like the speed of a ferris wheel at the county fair!) so one gets a leisurely 360 degree view of the city. It takes about 30 minutes to make one rotation.
You have to ride it at least once!
