Welcome to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site.
We are in the Sweet Auburn District of Atlanta, Georgia
where we find the house where Martin Luther King, Jr was born.
(the house can be visited but only on a park ranger led tour)
Ebenezer Baptist Church, the church where both he and his father preached…
Inside you can listen to a taped service and hear Dr. King’s stirring voice.
(Hint: Click on any photo to enlarge it.)
The National Historic Site is made up of several buildings, including the ones pictured above. Walking along the Freedom Walkway, you will come to this crypt…
This is the final resting place of Martin Luther King, Jr.
(and since this photo was taken, also the final resting place of his wife, Coretta Scott King).
and the Eternal Flame.
Walk a little farther along and you come to the Visitor Center with its extensive displays, photographs, and artifacts.
I was very moved by this depiction of Dr. King’s message of walking towards the light…
I stood for a long time amongst the walkers
Allot more time than you would initially expect to this National Historic Site…
there is a lot to see
and a lot to think about.
